TIM BARTON

Managing Partner

In 1989, Tim Barton founded Barton Muhammad Search (BMS), an industry leading boutique search firm with the belief that success is achieved by building relationships through trust, actions, and results. The core guiding principles of BMS are to always operate with a long-term mindset and do the right things for the right reasons, put the needs of clients and candidates ahead of the needs of BMS, and serve with the utmost integrity. These beliefs have been key to Tim’s and the firm’s success for over 34 years as he continues to develop and nurture lasting client and candidate relationships within Fortune 500, mid-size, small, emerging, and private equity-backed companies from an array of consumer-related industries.

Tim is passionate about delivering excellence and DE&I across CEO, President, General Manager and C-level roles within the marketing, sales, operations, finance, and human resource functions. Tim has led or overseen the strategy and execution of over 1,500 successful search assignments with industry-leading companies such as Bridgestone, Hershey, WhiteWave Foods, Amplify Snacks, Kellogg, KIND Snacks, Newell, Blue Buffalo, Ocean Spray, Vega, Raw Sugar Living, Kens Foods, Kinder’s, Snyder’s-Lance, Diamond Foods, Newman's Own and Nintendo. These clients and many others have entrusted Tim to deliver strategic guidance on matters such as executive coaching, organizational design, succession planning, and transformation leadership. It is Tim's belief that non-fee-based consulting services are an important value-added benefit that supports long-term search partnerships with clients.

Prior to founding BMS, Tim had a successful career in sales management with Procter & Gamble.

Tim currently serves as a member of the Board of Trustees for Bryant University, a private university located in Smithfield, RI. As a Bryant Trustee, Tim is Chair of the Student Affairs & Athletics Committee and a member of the DEI&B Committee. Tim is an Advisor for X-10 Capital, an innovative company that has created a unique asset class that is not correlated to the market. X-10 Capital invests in human potential and brand value of professional athletes. Tim previously sat on the Breakthrough Collaborative National Board and the Breakthrough Atlanta Board, serving out his terms of nine and eleven years. Breakthrough works with traditionally underrepresented students to achieve post-secondary success and empowers aspiring leaders to become the next generation of educators and advocates.
